PUBLIC NOTICE

November 5 Town Election


The Horry County Election Commission will hold a General Election for the Town of Surfside Beach on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 to elect one Mayor and three Town Councilmembers.  Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.  This is a nonpartisan election and no reference to party affiliation will be placed on the ballot.

Offices included:  1 Mayor Seat, and 3 Town Council Seats all with terms beginning December 10, 2019 and ending December 12, 2023

Candidate Filing is CLOSED. 

Polling Locations:  Surfside #1 Dick M. Johnson Civic Center, 829 N Pine Drive, Surfside Beach. Surfside #2 and Surfside #4 Surfside United Methodist Church, 800 13th Avenue N, Surfside Beach. 

Qualifications for Voting:  Last date to register to vote in this election is October 4, 2019. Surfside Beach electors must present a valid photo identification pursuant SC Code ยง7-13-710. Contact Horry County Board of Voter Registration (843.915.5440), or visit www.scvotes.org to register.

 


Election Function Transferred to Horry County

 

Town Council adopted Ordinance Number 19-0886 (click on link to view the ordinance) on February 26, 2019 which transfers the town's election function to Horry County. Therefore, the next town election will be November 5, 2019 to elect the mayor and three councilmembers for four (4) year terms beginning December 10, 2019 and ending December 12, 2023. 

Candidates may file to be on the ballot in the town clerk's office beginning on Friday, August 23rd, 2019 at 12 noon until 12 noon on Friday, September 6th, 2019. Office of Mayor                                    Office of Town Council

Pursuant to Ordinance #19-0886, candidates shall complete a statement of candidacy, provide proof that he or she is at least 18 years of age, is a registered elector, and lives in the town's corporate limit. Filing fee for mayor is $100; for town council $75.

 


Horry County Election Commission

 

The Horry County Election Commission has authority to manage the town's election pursuant to Ordinance Number 19-0886. The Horry County Election Commission may be reached by calling Horry County Elections and Registration at 843.915.5440.
