The Town of Surfside Beach Municipal Election Commission announces that a Runoff Election for the Town of Surfside Beach will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. This is a nonpartisan election and no reference to party affiliation will be placed on the ballot.
Offices. One (1) Town Council Seat to fill a term beginning May 8, 2018, and ending May 10, 2022.
Candidates Appearing on the Ballot: Tim Courtney and Debbie Scoles.
NO Write-In Candidates. Write in ballots are not allowed during Runoff Elections.
Polling Locations. Surfside #1: Dick M. Johnson Civic Center, 829 N Pine Drive, Surfside Beach. Surfside #2 and Surfside #4: Surfside United Methodist Church, 800 13th Avenue N, Surfside Beach.
Qualifications for Voting. Last date to register to vote in this election was Friday, March 2, 2018. Surfside Beach electors must present a valid photo identification pursuant SC Code §7-13-710. Contact Horry County Board of Voter Registration (843.915.5440), or visit www.scvotes.org to register.
Absentee Ballots. Absentee ballots must be requested from the Horry County Elections office (843.915.5440). You may vote absentee in person at Horry County Elections & Registration, 1515 4th Avenue, Conway, until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16th.
The Municipal Election Commission will begin examining return-addressed absentee envelopes at 7:00 p.m. on Runoff Election Day in Surfside Beach Council Chambers, 115 US Highway 17 North, Surfside Beach, SC. Precinct totals will be tallied and presented as unofficial results as soon after 7:00 p.m. as possible.
Challenged Ballot & Certification Hearing will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., at Surfside Beach Council Chambers, 115 US Highway 17 North, Surfside Beach, SC.
Protests. Candidate protests must be filed in writing by 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the office of the town clerk.
Run-Off Election. You did not have to vote in the General Election on April 3rd to vote in the Runoff Election; however, you must be registered to vote on or before March 2, 2018, as the runoff is a continuation of the General Election.
Successful Candidate. The successful candidate in the Runoff Election is the candidate that receives the highest number of votes.

The Municipal Election Commission certified Candidate Bruce Dietrich and Incumbent David Pellegrino at the April 5 Certification Hearing. There is a Runoff Election between Candidates Tim Courtney and Debbie Scoles on April 17th (see notice above.) Municipal Election Commission Information
Term: 6 years
Duties: The Election Commission is charged with conducting the town’s elections which are held during every even numbered year.
Qualifications: Commissioners must be residents and registered electors of the Town. Training is required and provided for appointees.
Meeting Schedule: Commissioners meet to prepare for upcoming elections; visit the voting precincts and tabulate ballots on Election Day, and hold a challenged ballot hearing after Election Day.
