Summary: This employee serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Surfside Beach Fire Department, supervises and coordinates activities of Fire Department personnel, to include full time, part time and volunteer while working and or training in the firefighter capacity.

The Fire Chief is on-call “24-7”; is required to ensure Incident Command is performed at the highest professional
standards; reports to the scene of all incidents he or she deems necessary; Assumes Incident Command if needed and is responsible for ensuring Fire Department personnel remain fully trained and certified as firefighters and all required certifications that they must have to be certified firefighters/officers.

The Fire Chief reports directly to the Town Administrator. The Chief will work with the Town Administrator
regarding personnel and staffing; budgeting; administrative matters as assigned by the town manager; public safety
education and fire prevention; and other responsibilities designed to develop and improve the Town of Surfside Beach and its Departments.

The Fire Chief is the Emergency Management Director and assumes command of the town EOC in the event of major storms or incidents that require the EOC to be in operation.

Summary:  Under general supervision; performs a variety of clerical and technical tasks associated with the permit application and plan review process in order to ensure effectively and efficiently office operations.  Performs a variety of other routine clerical duties and provides assistance to department director, coworkers and the general public as required.
