Job Title: Building Official
Report to: Planning-Building-Zoning Director
Salary Range: $44,090.00 - $68,000.00
Summary: The Town of Surfside Beach is currently seeking applications for a qualified professional to serve as Building Official. Duties include but are not limited to Reviewing and approving all permit applications for building code compliance; stormwater compliance; performs all plan reviews; determines code and ordinance interpretations regarding building matters; performs inspections on residential, commercial, industrial buildings and other structures, including electrical, mechanical, gas, refrigeration, heating and air conditioning, plumbing installation, and other components during and after construction to ensure that work meets codes; enforces town ordinances; addresses and resolves complaints. Perform field inspections on new and existing buildings and structures to enforce conformance to building, grading, storm water management, flood damage prevention, approved plans, specifications and standards and applicable codes. Responsible for administering, interpreting and enforcing the International Building Codes, Stormwater Management Code and Flood Damage Prevention Code and other town ordinances and regulations. Minimum Qualifications: At least 5 years experience as a building official or equivalent as an architect, engineer, inspector or any combination of experience equal to the above. Oral and written communication skills including speaking and presentations at various meetings and problem resolution a must. Computer skills including current Microsoft Office Suite and department related software. Must have current Certified Building Official Certification (CBO) or obtain the certification within one year of hire date. Must maintain valid certification. Must have DHEC Stormwater Plan Reviewer Certification or obtain the certification within six months of hire date. Must possess the Certified Floodplain Managers Certification or obtain the certification within one year of hire date.
Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
Minimum starting salary $44,000.00 plus benefits.
