Overview
The Town Beautification and Engagement Committee is ad hoc; it acts as a community engagement organization designed to serve Surfside Beach by promoting and enhancing the beauty and spirit of the town by identifying areas of improvement and engaging community partners, while educating, encouraging and motivating our citizens to become better stewards of its natural resources.
Term: 4 years
Qualifications: The Beautification Committee shall consist of resident volunteers and a non-voting member of Town Council. Membership is limited to nine individuals. Committee members must live in the town of Surfside Beach, SC.
Purpose: The purpose for establishing this committee is to provide a vehicle to unify the town with a cohesive approach that works towards the improvement of the aesthetics of the town, helping to ensure that the town's physical sites and treasures project a positive view of the residents and businesses in our community. Town beautification, improvement and preservation is a stepping stone to improving civic pride within the community and motivating the residents to become more involved in the collective beautification process. Surfside Beach resident engagement is the emotional commitment the residents have to the town and its goals. This emotional commitment means engaged residents actually care about their community. When residents care-when they are engaged-they use discretionary effort.
The Town Beautification and Engagement Committee strives to:
- Work within the best interests of the town as a whole; support the objectives and priorities of Town Council
- Make our town beautiful inside and out
- Promote and improve the physical aesthetics of the town
- Give back to the community and work towards the better good
- Promote positivity; encourage participation, feedback and conversation
- Build a stronger sense of community; contribute to and enhance the culture of the town
- Have fun, smile, boost Surfside pride, make the town better for future generations

Yard of the Month Program
Keep Surfside Beach Beautiful is pleased to announce the Yard of the Month program to show their appreciation and to recognize those homeowners who demonstrate superior effort in maintaining their property, and who, as a result, positively contribute to the overall appearance of Surfside Beach, SC.
The Keep Surfside Beach Committee will award a monthly winner during the months of May through October. Winners will have the honor of displaying the official "KSBB Yard of the Month" yard sign that identifies their property as the Yard of the Month winner.
Nominations
Anyone may submit residential nominations for the Yard of the Month program. Nominations are accepted April-September. Nominations are due on the 15th of each month for the subsequent month. To send nominations, please email the Town Clerk or email the KSBB.
KSBB will select three final nominees each month from the candidates that have been nominated. Yard of the Month candidates are judged solely on the exterior appearance of their property as viewed from the street. Yards will be judged on neatness, landscaping and color. Overall appearance and factors include, but are not limited to, tidiness and neatness of the front and side yards up to the fence line, pruned and trimmed trees and shrubs, edged and defined lawns, borders and flower beds without bare spots and excessive weeds and a visually appealing facade. Driveways and walkways shall be clean, edged and free of debris and dirt.
Winner Selection
KSBB will post the three nominees each month on their Facebook page for the public to vote. Anyone may vote. One vote per person. Alternatively, vote via emailing the Town Clerk or emailing the KSSB.
