Welcome From the Mayor
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and I hope it provides helpful information about "The Family Beach". Surfside Beach is conveniently located in the heart of the South Carolina Grand Strand. There are approximately 2 miles of pristine beaches within walkable, bike-friendly neighborhoods with easy access to shopping, its library, parks, restaurants and other recreation. A drive on our main highway takes you to a variety of businesses for shopping, restaurants, amusements and much more.
Unfortunately, the Surfside Beach Pier was damaged during Hurricane Matthew in 2016. We are currently working to erect a brand-new pier that will be the only oceanfront concrete pier in South Carolina. This will provide bottom and float fishing as well as a terrific view of our oceanfront shoreline.
The Town of Surfside Beach was incorporated in 1964 and our current population is over 4,200 people. We maintain a laid-back, friendly environment. Our top priority is putting our residents first while maintaining a quality of life for everyone to enjoy.
We have our own public safety network (Police and Fire). We also have a variety of year-round events to bring our community together. Surfside Beach is the first town in the United States to become an "Autism Friendly" travel destination.
I look forward to seeing you in our town, where residents, investment property owners, businesses and visitors are all important members of our "Family Beach."
Robert D. "Bob" Hellyer
