Mayor Hellyers Weekly Update

December 2, 2022

I want to let you know we held a Special Council meeting on November 29 and voted to appoint Fire Chief, Robert Clemons as Interim Town Administrator effective as of December 17, as we pursue efforts to hire a town administrator. Our vote was unanimous. On behalf of the Council, I wish to thank Chief Clemons for accepting this challenge during this critical time. We are grateful for his leadership and guidance. Chief Clemons will remain the Fire Chief in addition to assuming the responsibilities of interim administrator. Please give your support to Chief Clemons.

Tonight, the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in Memorial Park, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. will officially kick off the Holiday season here in Surfside Beach. I am very excited to join Santa, the carolers, the musicians, and all our neighbors as we gather for a great time of good food, live music, and fun for the whole family. Bring your cameras, dress warmly and get ready for lots of smiles and laughter. Thank you to KSBB for promoting the efforts of the Public Works staff and Town Hall. They are doing a fantastic job.

On Monday, December 5, the Pier Committee is hosting a joint meeting with the Business Committee in the Civic Center at 6 p.m. The workshop will focus on the Surfside Beach fishing pier and the surrounding entertainment district. The committees will cover rationales for branding benefits for the town and businesses, a review of sample moniker ideas, and an open public forum and brainstorming session. I look forward to hearing their thoughts. All are welcome.
