[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Update January 27.2023

Mayor Hellyer’s Weekly Update

January 27, 2023    CORRECTION

We have prepared the details for this year’s parking regulations. The parking decals for golf carts will be issued starting February 6th.  Check the town website for more information at https://www.surfsidebeach.org/202/Parking.

The Consensus Construction Company tells me April 16th is expected to be their completion of work for the pier. This is not the opening date for the public. A local news station has  erroneously reported April as opening day for the pier.

The Pier Committee is working diligently on the pier grand opening, including working with the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. There is one retail shop space that needs to be filled. An RFP will be issued shortly and posted on the town website. Interested retail operators should contact the Interim Town Administrator, Rob Clemons.

It is that time of year to develop the 2023-2024 town budget calendar, which means department heads and council will be holding several meetings to cover these important discussions.

Good news! The federal government issued emergency funds to cover the costs of beach renourishments impacted from Hurricane Ian. We will keep you posted when we schedule these efforts in coordination with the Army Corp of Engineers. More information to come.

Applications for the “Town Administrator” position have been arriving. We are working with the South Carolina Municipal Association to help with the process of screenings candidates for interviews and selection. We expect this will take several months.

In addition to the administrator’s position, there are other job opportunities open for employment and listed on the website: https://www.surfsidebeach.org/Jobs.aspx. Help us spread the word. Perhaps you know of someone with the right set of qualifications.

Efforts are underway to finalize the contracts for the Farmers Market on Tuesdays, and the Craft Market on Thursdays, to begin in April through the summer and early fall season.

Some of the IT kinks in our town website have been cleared, but please bear with us as we continue to work through improving the calendar and events sections.

Vendors interested in participating in the town’s Barbeque Festival scheduled for March should contact Sheri Medina, Town Clerk, at 843-913-6333.

Stay safe and God Bless …
