Remember that parking will be enforced as of March 1, 2023. Be sure to read and review the new parking rules. There are two major changes to be aware of. First, all patrons must pay the $3.00 per hour fee at the Pier Parking lot; there is no free parking for non-resident and non-owner parking registrations. Second, all the parking lots no longer accept cash; the machines only use a credit cards. There will be signs posted with a telephone number you call for assistance if needed.   These rules apply for the 2023 season and we will plan to evaluate them in the off season and adjust accordingly.

Today, on behalf of Fire Chief Clemons, I am proud to announce the Surfside Beach Fire Department is providing the highest level of medical care possible. With the addition of a cardiac monitor, other advanced medical equipment, and advanced medical guidelines, they achieved recognition from the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control as an Advanced Life Support Rapid Responder Agency. This means that they now can provide Advanced Life Support to sick and injured persons until an ambulance is able to transport them to a hospital for further care. They will also be able to provide lifesaving medicine, advanced care in a cardiac arrest, and provide early recognition and treatment of a heart attack, and administer IV’s to seriously injured people. The Surfside Beach Fire Department is embodying its motto of “Be the Difference,” and with the ability to provide advanced life support, it will make that difference for many more people.

A special thank you to all the members of the fire department who have worked tirelessly to make this milestone a reality. We commend you.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM to attend the important Public Open House to learn more about the COMPREHENSIVE PLAN for Surfside Beach. Come drop-in to learn about the process for creating a new long-range prior-setting plan for the future of our town. Attendance is at the Dick M. Johnson Civic Center. You are the most important part of this process and we appreciate your feedback and involvement.

Once again, the BBQ Festival is just around the corner. The weather is starting to turn the corner! That is Friday, March 3rd from 4-7 with “Anything but BBQ” and Saturday March 4th from 10-4.  Come with your family, neighbors, and friends. Try some good BBQ. Take lots of pictures. See you there!

Stay safe and God Bless …
