[ARCHIVED] Mayor Hellyer's Weekly Update - July 16, 2022

Mayor Hellyers Weekly Update

Have you been to the 3 rd Avenue North beach access lately? Our Town’s Public Works Department has just installed the first section of the Mobi-Mat RecPath (a smooth pathway) specifically designed to provide a dedicated travel lane for our beach visitors with walking disabilities and the visually impaired. Public Works plans to extend the current pathway (33 x 5 feet), further past the dunes and closer to the beach. Go to our Facebook page for more information and see the pictures! Thank you to everyone who has sent their overwhelmingly positive responses on Facebook. Good Job Public Works!

On a related note, our Police Department has a beach wheelchair program available. Information is available at the link: www/

What a rainy, monsoon season we are having. It’s a good thing for feeding our vegetation and replenishing our natural water resources, but it’s really put a damper on our outdoor events lately. The good news is that our Town’s stormwater drainage and management efforts are prevailing well. Thanks to the trees for reducing the costs of energy, stormwater management, and erosion control. Trees can yield as much as 3-5 times their cost in overall benefits to our town. We have been fortunate with having avoided significant flooding events like our neighboring towns. Despite the rain, we still have many other indoor activities and events that can be attended. Go support our local vendors!

I want to let you know that I, along with several of our council members will attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome “The Bounty Hunter,” a new business vendor located next to the King Sushi restaurant in the shopping center at the intersection of Glenns Bay and Hwy 17. Come join us on Saturday at 10 AM, we’d love to see you support our new business. I believe we’ll be ‘rain or shine.’

Music in the Park (hopefully) will feature “The Wanderers” in our Memorial Park starting at 4 PM on Sunday, July 17. I will be there. Come out. let’s talk together and enjoy the fresh air, beautiful park setting and music!

Stay safe and God Bless!
