Today we woke up to the terrible news of a fire at Neal and Pam’s Bar and Grill on Ocean Blvd. Neal and Pam’s has been a staple of our town since 1985. It was one of the first places my wife and I visited when we first came to Surfside Beach. They opened their doors and welcomed the opportunity for my colleagues and me to a “meet the candidates” in 2019. They have deep roots in our community. Thank you to all the first responders on the scene. We are grateful no one was hurt. As so many of you have posted on Facebook, I join you in wishing their return soon, refreshed and anew to welcome us back.
Back to the business of our town. The next Town Council meeting is on July 26, at 6:30 p.m. A Pier Workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, July 27 at 10 a.m. and will focus on technical information regarding our pier. Administrator Shanahan will host a Citizen’s Workshop on Thursday, July 28 at 6 p.m. Please plan to attend. We would like to hear your input and feedback.
Keep Surfside Beach Beautiful (KSBB) is asking you to vote for the August Yard-of-the-Month winner. The nominees include: 117 10th Ave S, 339 15th Ave S, and 713 4th Ave N. Deadline to vote is midnight Friday, July 29. The winner will be announced on KSBB’s Facebook page. On a similar note, I’m looking forward to seeing KSBB’s ‘how-to’ video on the Public Works Department’s hanging baskets.
Martin Park baseball field has new picnic tables installed earlier this week. Visit our Facebook page for the pictures. It’s another great addition to our parks.
We had great weather last Sunday with the Music in the Park. This Sunday, “The Rich Johnson Band” will return to Memorial Park starting at 4 p.m. Bring chairs, blankets, and your own food. Enjoy the fresh air, beautiful park setting and music!
Tuesday is the Beach Hula Show at 7 p.m. Bring the kids to the Wednesday Crafter’s Cove class between 9:30 and 11 a.m. Both events are at the 3rd Ave S beach access.
BE INFORMED, GET INVOLVED, and HELP BE THE CHANGE!
Stay safe and God Bless!
