[ARCHIVED] Mayor Hellyer's Weekly Update - Nov. 4, 2022

Mayor Hellyers Weekly Update

Nancy Childs, the wife of former mayor Bob Childs, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd. She is most remembered for her soft smile and gentle wave. My family and I send our sympathies. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel in Murrells Inlet. More information is at https://www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Nancy-Childs/#!/Obituary

Town Council held a Special Meeting Thursday to discuss the electrical power options for the pier. After a lengthy discussion, a decision was made by vote of the council and the work will proceed. All delays regarding the pier have now been addressed. The completion date is expected to be April 2023.

Tomorrow is the annual Family Festival on Surfside Drive between the intersections of Hollywood Dr. and Dogwood Dr. from 10 to 4 p.m. There will be lots of food, plenty of vendors, and lots of activities for the kids. Many of our town committees will be represented with a booth. Come out and find out more about your town. Come and buy a tee shirt.

Do not forget to Vote. This Tuesday, Nov. 8, is election day. There will be no council meeting.

November 11th at 2 p.m., Charles Edward (Ed) Turek, a resident of Surfside Beach will be our speaker at the town's Veterans Service in Memorial Park. He is 94 years old, served 26 years in the U.S. Army during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. I look forward to hearing about Mr. Turek’s experience.

We are glad to hear that permits have been issued for the Neal and Pams Restaurant renovations and look forward to their re-opening soon.
