[ARCHIVED] Mayor Hellyer's Weekly Update - Nov. 18, 2022

Mayor Hellyers Weekly Update

November 18, 2022

Can you believe that it is less than one week until Thanksgiving? Let us put aside all the negative things in our lives, like inflation, gas prices, and politics and prepare for this day to reflect on all the things we are grateful for and take for granted. The fact that we live in a beautiful town with beautiful people. The fact that where some people only get to visit to see its beauty, we get to enjoy living here every day. Please reach out to those not as fortunate and share your kindness.

On Thursday, Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, is the 13th Annual Surfside Rotary Turkey Trot. The Turkey Trot features an oceanfront start and finish in front of the Surfside Beach Pier. Runners, walkers, and strollers are all welcome. Participants receive a high-quality race shirt, made in the USA, a finisher medal, and post-race goodies. Registration closes Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. For more information, visit: https://runsignup.com/Race/SC/SurfsideBeach/SurfsideRotaryTurkeyTrot5K10K

At our Council Meeting this Tuesday, we will be given the results of the Citizen Workshop SWOT ANALYSIS REPORT.  Please feel free to join us either in person or by joining us via tablet or smartphone at https://meet.goto.com/735492133  or dial in using your phone at 1 877-309-2073

The former Burkes Outlet is now Beall’s Outlet Store.  They will have a grand opening event on Dec. 1, at 9 a.m. Please join me and other members of the council for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Town of Surfside Beach is taking a proactive approach to protecting our wildlife. It can be very peaceful to sit back and watch the beauty of nature, but please refrain from interacting in their day-to-day lives. Be mindful that it is against the town ordinances to feed wild animals.
