[ARCHIVED] Mayor Hellyer's Weekly Update - Nov. 25, 2022

Mayor Hellyers Weekly Update

At our Council Meeting this past Tuesday, Council voted not to charge admission for the new pier for the first year. The feedback was clear from the surveys taken over the year. We will evaluate later if the revenue generated from the vendors will offset pier expenses in future years.

It’s become a tradition that on Thanksgiving Day, the Annual Surfside Rotary Club’s Turkey Trot takes place in Surfside Beach. This was the 13th event with over 800 participants. I hope everyone had a good time and a chance to cheer the runners on as they traveled throughout our town.

It saddens me to confirm that Mr. William “Bill” Shanahan, our Town Administrator, has decided to resign effective December 17, as previously announced. I thank Mr. Shanahan for all his hard work. Council will hold an executive session this coming Monday to plan our Town’s direction in the coming months.

The former Burkes Outlet is now Beall’s Outlet Store. They will have a Grand opening on December 1, at 9 a.m. Please join me and our council members for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

December is just around the corner for “Tis the season” to include:

I trust everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving with friends and family. Please consider helping those less fortunate during these holidays. I see folks have started decorating houses for the Christmas Season. The Trolley Rides will highlight these decorated houses. Soon, we will welcome the start of 2023. Time seems to be flying.

Stay safe and God Bless!
