Town Hall offices to close for MLK Day 

Surfside Beach Town Hall will be closed Monday, Jan. 17 for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. 

Normal townwide commercial and bulk debris pickups will be performed.

Planning Commission meeting canceled 

The regular scheduled Planning Commission for Tuesday, Jan 4, has been canceled.  The commission's next regularly scheduled meeting is set for Feb, 1.

Surfside Beach Fire Department Promotions

This week Chief Clemons formally announced the promotions of Captain Larry Carter to Deputy Chief, Acting Battalion/Captain James Behrens to A Shift Battalion/Captain and Engineer Stan Wojtalewicz to C Shift Battalion/Captain.

The Town of Surfside Beach would like to congratulate each of them on their well-earned promotions, the future is bright for the Surfside Beach Fire Department.

Results – Dec. 16 Special Called Town Council Meeting 

RESULTS – DEC. 16 SURFSIDE BEACH SPECIAL CALLED TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

The Surfside Beach Town Council met at Town Hall on Thursday, December 16, for a Special Meeting (2 p.m.).

BUSINESS 

-- Town Council approved providing bonuses for current employees, who were employed on or before December 2020, with funds received from the American Rescue Plan.

Results – Dec. 14 Town Council Meeting 

RESULTS – DEC. 14 SURFSIDE BEACH TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

The Surfside Beach Town Council met at the Dick M. Johnson Civic Center on Tuesday, December 14, for a Meeting (6:30 p.m.).

COMMUNICATIONS included a monthly report from the Department of Public Works, updating council on sanitation services and the Dogwood Swash Culvert Bridge project, among other things. Police Chief Kenneth Hofmann provided a monthly report on crime statistics, department training and the hiring of a new police officer.

 

DISCUSSIONS included a review of the fee schedule for street lighting in the Harbor Lights HOA.

 

BUSINESS 

-- Town Council approved a request by Police Chief Kenneth Hofmann to participate in the Department of Defense Surplus Property Program.

-- Town Council approved a request by Fire Chief Robert Clemons to reorganize department leadership, and purchase an incident command vehicle.

-- Town Council voted against a resolution supporting the Town’s application and fees for the Municipal Association of South Carolina Retail Recruitment Training Program.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

-- Following a meeting in executive session, Town Council authorized the Town Administrator to enter in to negotiations with a parking vendor.

Accommodations Tax Funding 

Accommodations Tax Funding is used for the purposes of promoting the growth of the tourism industry and fostering cultural and recreational activities. The Town of Surfside Beach entertains requests for funding from individuals or agencies that sponsor promotional or cultural activities. The deadline to apply for 2022 A-Tax Funding is Dec. 31, 2021.

Results – Nov. 23 Town Council Meeting 

RESULTS – NOV. 23 SURFSIDE BEACH TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
The Surfside Beach Town Council met at the Dick M. Johnson Civic Center on Tuesday, November 23, for a Meeting (6:30 p.m.).

COMMUNICATIONS included a proclamation by Mayor Bob Hellyer declaring Dec. 7, 2021 Arbor Day in the Town of Surfside Beach.
Finance Director Diana King provided a monthly finance report, updating council members on Special Revenue Funds, Capital Project Fund, Stormwater Utility Fund, Enterprise Funds, Pier and Sanitation Funds.

 

DISCUSSIONS included an update on pier construction progress, by Councilmember Kinken. Kinken also discussed forming a parking committee, and golf cart parking throughout town. Following discussion, a motion was made to form a parking committee.

 

BUSINESS 
-- Town Council passed a motion to hire Ms. Sabrina Morris as the director of the Town’s Building and Codes Department.
-- Town Council passed a motion to ratify an ordinance, stressing the importance of tree protection and preservation to the Town’s Stormwater Management program.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION
-- Following a meeting in executive session, Town Council re-appointed Shane Stewart to the Town’s Construction Board of Appeals.
